Thanks for trying LiveDictionary. LiveDictionary is a Safari extension that adds fast, convenient dictionary lookups to the web. Once installed, it becomes a transparent part of Safari. LiveDictionary offers a wide array of dictionaries for technical terms, general language, and bilingual usage.

LiveDictionary interfaces with Safari using an Input Manager. Input Managers are small pieces of code that are automatically loaded into applications on your system. LiveDictionary uses this technique to load itself into Safari. Because of this, LiveDictionary is not a simple application, and it must be installed in the right location.

Installing LiveDictionary

You can install LiveDictionary using the LiveDictionary Installer next to where you found this README. You will have the option of installing LiveDictionary for all users on your computer or just for yourself. Installing LiveDictionary for yourself does not require administrator access.

To use LiveDictionary, point your mouse cursor to the word you want to look up. By default, that word's dictionary entry will appear automatically after a short delay, if the word has an entry in the dictionary.

You can customize LiveDictionary's appearance, change dictionaries, and install new ones from the LiveDictionary menu which appears in Safari.

LiveDictionary comes with the WordNet 2.0 English Dictionary to get you started, but a wide variety of dictionaries can be downloaded for free within LiveDictionary.

Shareware

LiveDictionary is shareware. You may use LiveDictionary for free until you have used Safari for ten days. (Days where you don't use Safari don't count, so don't worry about running out your trial period without getting a chance to try it.) After that, you will be limited to five minutes per launch until you register. You may purchase LiveDictionary for $25 from the online store or directly within LiveDictionary. When ordering from within LiveDictionary, your order is processed right away and the serial number is automatically delivered directly to LiveDictionary, and you will also get a confirmation e-mail with all of the necessary details.

LiveDictionary comes with a 30-day guarantee. If you are not satisfied with your purchase, please contact us and we will try to resolve your problem. If your problem cannot be resolved, the purchase price will be refunded.

Distribution

Please feel free to give copies of LiveDictionary to family and friends. However, distribution of serial numbers is strictly prohibited! Your serial number is for you and you alone. For any large scale or commercial distribution of the unregistered version of LiveDictionary, included but not limited to inclusion on web sites and CD-ROMs, please contact us for permission. All distribution of LiveDictionary must be in the form of the original, unaltered disk image.
